A long cantilever reaches past a limestone shelf toward the western light.
The lot falls away to the west in a run of exposed limestone. Rather than level it, the house sits on the high ground and lets its upper floor reach out over the drop.
The lower floor is board-formed concrete, cast against rough cedar so the grain stays in the wall. It holds the entry, the kitchen and a long gallery that opens to the terrace.
Above it, a timber-clad volume runs the full length of the site and extends past the concrete at both ends. The bedrooms sit at the far end, where the cantilever is deepest and the view opens over the trees.
Deep roof overhangs are sized to the summer sun. In July the glass stays in shade through the afternoon; in January the light reaches the back wall of the living room.
